Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the Organizing Committee, we are pleased to invite you to the 18th World Congress of the International Association for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Allied Professions (IACAPAP). The Congress will take place in Istanbul, Turkey from April 30th to May 3rd 2008.

The Congress will be a multidisciplinary meeting of professionals working in the field of child and adolescent mental health, and promises comprehensive discussions about emerging research and issues challenging treatment, training and research in child and adolescent mental health. Participants include psychiatrists, psychologists, guidance counsellors, social workers, psychiatric nurses, paediatricians, sociologists and teachers from all over the world.

The theme of the Congress is ‘Carrying Hope between East and West for 3 C’s: Children, Cultures, Commitments’. We aim to shed light on topics related to children and adolescents in various cultures and to provide a base to develop constructive commitments for the generations to come. Turkey, being a country where the continents meet, bridging the eastern and the western parts of the world, has historically hosted many cultures. Istanbul, one of the most charming UNESCO World Heritage sites and the Cultural Capital of Europe to be in 2010 will be an exciting setting to meet and discuss child and adolescent mental health problems as well as to develop strategies to foster hopes for the future in a world becoming smaller due to globalization and modern technology but also seeing the marginalization of many at risk populations.

We extend a warm welcome to an academically and socially rewarding Congress with a scientific program of the highest quality and an exciting socio-cultural program.

We are looking forward to hosting you in Istanbul with traditional Turkish hospitality.

Per-Anders Rydelius President of the Congress, President, IACAPAP
